My Leica Year: The Film: Wrapping Up

leicayear:

The final take-away from my experience of shooting 35mm film over the last year is that it’s largely about the process for me, less about the look. I like working with it. I like the tangibility of it. I like that you can make a picture without turning on a computer. I like waiting for it and how it forgives

I’m late to this (by a few hours, but hey, there was an iPad announcement this morning!) but check out this conversation between Richard Benson and Arthur Ou about the future trend of photography and where film versus digital prints versus digital display will play out. Benson also talks about the difference between making photographic prints and painting, what comes out of the process. The digital darkroom is much more akin to painting, in my experience, than the traditional darkroom. So, what comes out of it is likely to be different than what’s come before.
